For Business
Business and systems are the same thing, seen from different angles.
Business and systems are not two different things — they are the same thing seen from different angles. A cone viewed from above is a circle; from the side, a triangle. Both views are correct, and the object is still a cone. Business speaks in revenue, customers, and profit; systems speak in APIs, databases, and latency. Different words, same object.
Being understood beats being precise
You can describe a cone with an equation, but few people picture a cone from the math. Say "a circle from above, a triangle from the side" and almost everyone gets it instantly. What matters is not that my explanation is correct — it is that the listener can understand it.
Translate to the listener's dimension
Communication is translation. Hand system language straight to business and it will not be understood; hand business demands straight to developers and they cannot be built. Understand which angle the other person sees from, and fit your words to that angle. Changing the expression is not a compromise — it is the technique that carries the essence across.
Books that helped me work for the business go here. I am still choosing the first ones.
